Good movies, bad transfers
The box claims these are digitally re-mastered and sound enhanced. That's not true. The films are all very grainy and the sound is awful. They are fine for watching on a small TV, and fine if you just want to see them. Don't expect a quality picture or sound. You get what you pay for.
Edward G. Robinson is fantastic, so content wise, these are a safe bet for a little over a buck per film.
Edward G plus others
This is a collection of mostly B movies that, while not the greatest and while all don't feature Edward G. Robinson, are good films to have in your collection. The price is right and the quality of transfer is adequate...not great, but good enough. I would not suggest watching these are a 55" inch screen since you may be annoyed with the imperfections, but on anything smaller, the quality is just fine. In summary, a collection worth the money and worth having.
Big Daddy Loves Those Midnight Mysteries
Scarlett Street - When a man in mid-life crisis befriends a young woman, her venal fiancé persuades her to con him out of some of the fortune she thinks he has. Robinson at his "sleazy" best, Duryea the classic "creep" and Bennett caught in between. Never get tired of watching this one, but don't drink while viewing. Could get too depressing.
The Red House - Pete and Ellen have reared Meg as their own, ever since she was a baby and her parents took off. Now a teen, Meg convinces her friend Nath to come help with chores on the farm: Pete isn't getting around on his wooden leg like he used to. When Nath insists on using a short cut home through the woods, Pete gets quite agitated and warns him of screams in the night, of terrors associated with the red house. Curious, Meg and Nath ignore his warnings and begin exploring. Meg begins falling in love with Nath, but his girlfriend Tibby has other plans for him. Meanwhile they all get closer to real danger and the dark...
